Bourbon Street & Bulletins: A Day of Sights, Sounds… and Sobering News

Yesterday’s stroll down Bourbon Street was everything you’d expect from the heart of New Orleans — loud music spilling from balconies, the scent of beignets and mystery, and characters on every corner. We hopped the trolley and let it take us on a full-circle ride through the city, letting the past and present melt together in true Crescent City style.

I snapped photo after photo, enchanted by the peeling paint, the wrought iron balconies, the ghosts that seem to linger in the air. Our plans are already swirling for the next visit — the water’s edge calls, and the legendary cemeteries of New Orleans are waiting to whisper their secrets.

But this morning, the spell broke a bit. We learned that not long after our visit, a shooting took place in the very area we’d wandered through, laughing and exploring. It’s a chilling reminder that even the most magical places are not immune to the world's shadows.

Still, it doesn’t dim the allure. It only deepens the contrast — the light and the dark, the beauty and the brutality, all living side by side in this haunted, honey-drenched city.

Until next time, New Orleans… stay strange, stay wild, stay haunted.
